KINGFISHER AIRLINES PURCHASES THREE NEW AIRBUS A319s TO BE BASED AT BANGALORE        Click Here for pictures

Total order is for 33 brand new Planes

Mumbai, February 18, 2005 – Kingfisher Airlines, India`s first private carrier launching with an all new fleet, today announced that it has signed an agreement with Airbus Industry of France for the purchase of three brand new Airbus A319 aircraft.

With this new purchase, Kingfisher Airlines, which will be launched later this year, has ordered a total of 33 brand new aircraft. Of these, a total of 13 aircraft – 10 A320s and 3 A319s – are on firm order, with options for buying a further 20 aircraft. In addition to this, Kingfisher Airlines has also leased four brand new Airbus A320-200 aircraft from Debis Air Finance, a company of Daimler Chrysler.

The A319s have a list price of US$ 153 million / Rs.673 crores, taking the total value of the order to US$ 1.93 billion / Rs.8,492 crores.

"The addition of the three 144 seat A319s to our soon-to-be launched airline will complement the capabilities of the fleet and serve the needs of traffic on routes out of Bangalore where the 319s will be based" said Dr. Vijay Mallya, the Chairman of Kingfisher Airlines.

Kingfisher will be a high value airline and will provide services and amenities that will be a first in the domestic civil aviation market in India and will include among other things:

  • A brand new fleet of quiet and comfortable A320s and A319s.

  • Personal video screens in every seat with a choice of up to 5 video and 10 audio channels for in-flight entertainment.

  • The largest comparable seat amongst domestic airlines in India with the greatest width and more legroom.

  • Assigned seating through advance internet reservations.

    Kingfisher Airlines will commence operations in May 2005.
